Databases

Vulcan Punishments+ by default stores the player's current punishment level in a YML file that is stored like this:

player-uuid: punishment-level
another-player-uuid: punishment-level

This works for most people, however if your server has more players, this file can over time become too heavy and not ideal to use.

To fix this, Vulcan Punishments+ can be configured to use database structures like SQLite.

This will provide a better experience for those who run servers that have larger playerbases, a lot of people who flag checks or are experiencing issues with the yml database format.

What should you use?

Depending on your storage needs, you may prefer the default YML or the SQLite database. Choosing one can be decided depending on a couple factors.

If you prefer:

.. then you may want to consider leaving it at the default YML.

However, if you prefer:

.. then you may want to choose SQLite.

You don't have to decide immediately, as your database can be changed to SQLite at any time along with your data.

Configuring Databases

The following configuration will only work for the plugin version 26.2.2 and above
If you are on a lower version of Vulcan Punishments+, the database configuration will not be available.
Please update the plugin to get the database feature.

To change which database you are using, go to your server's file manager and navigate to plugins/VulcanPunishmentsPlus/db-config.yml.

Change the preference: key to either yml or sqlite.

You will need to restart your server for this to change. Simply using /vpp reload will not work.

Once your server has changed the database, you will by default have no information in the database. You can apply your old yml database's data to your new SQLite database using the /vpp-convertdb command.

Depending on how many entries you have in your YML database, this may take a while.

You will be asked to use /vpp-convertdb confirm to confirm you want to convert the database.

Please note, using the /vpp-convertdb command should only be used on a database with no data.
If your SQLite database accumulates data for players that are also present inside the YML database, it will overwrite that new value.
